From 1922 to May 1940, The Wielryders Regiment was stationed at the Isabella Barracks. At the outbreak of the Second World War, this regiment consisted of 5190 men — on bicycles. They fought a valiant battle against the German invasion, but at a high price. The name Ryder is a tribute to the brave men who fought for our freedom.
